Feel a little, Laugh a lot.

“You don’t stop laughing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop laughing” Michael Pritchard

dsc08864-version-2_ppI have always been someone that questions my sanity. I have questioned it to the point where I came to a conclusion that I’ve gone bonkers (and that’s okay). That feeling came when I stopped trying so hard to replace certain emotions by seeking attention or pity. Rather I’m learning to deal with them in the most probably insane way I can now say that I appreciate.

dsc08803“Laughter through tears is my favourite emotion” Robert Harling

I’d like to say “Me too” but nobody wishes to cry, except that life happens sometimes. And because as human, I believe it’s only normal to fall into moods; I welcome them first, and then try to discard them. One way I’ve been able to do so aside talking myself out of them, is laughing  even when I feel like crying. Once I found myself crying in the bathroom, and just when I sighted the ugly reflection in the mirror, I managed to stretch my lips to smile while at it. It stretched more and more until I heard myself laughing out loud. Instantly I fell in love with the woman in front of the mirror.

dsc08836“Always laugh when you can, it is cheap medicine” Lord Bryon

It is easily expected that those who are perceived as “happy people”have zero bad days or problems. The reality is how they’ve chosen to look at it. I personally try to find a little good in however big the bad is. Most days, it worked for me, other days I just breathe and know it will pass. I formed the habit of running  to stand in front of the mirror when those off days come. Sometimes I even carry a small mirror  when I go on those walks where I talk to myself. And of course laughing at that instance used to feel like madness, but there’s usually a certain relive afterwards.

dsc08783“To truly laugh, you must be able to take your pain and play with it” Charlie Chaplin

They say true strength is in hiding pain and smiling through it; my theory is “feel a little, laugh a lot“. And that for me is therapy on its ownPerhaps you’re having one of those days when nothing feels right and you just can’t fight it. Don’t try to unpack those emotions, try seeing them as a human (maybe as  yourself). No one is entirely bad; we all have some good in us. I indulge to try focusing on the positive, no matter how little it may seem.

dsc08845_pp“Laughter is day, and sobriety is  night; a smile is the twilight that hovers between both, more bewitching than either” Henry Ward Beecher

Make an effort to stretch those lips, even if it’s for an inch. Keep coming back to do the same. I say if you can’t bring your self to laugh- half a smile is worth even more. At least you tried. See-it wasn’t so bad and you look good too. Keep Smiling 🙂
